As a Canadian leader in progressive thinking for cities and their regions, CUI is playing an active role in the WUF3. With a seat on the Government of Canada’s National Advisory Committee for WUF, CUI provided input to the design of the conference during 2005. We mobilized our partners from less developed countries to participate in the Habitat Jam. We will bring to the Vancouver conference our know-how and that of our membership and partners from across Canada and around the world. And we will participate in moving ahead the urban agenda in the months and years following WUF3.

The following is a list of main activities of the CUI and our partner organizations at WUF3:

Networking Event: “Cities and the Public Realm: Reinvesting in Community Assets”. June 19, 16.30-18.30. Location: Pan Pacific Hotel, Gallery Level, Oceanview 2. The quality of urban life is rooted deeply in the strength of the public realm. Education, health care, transit, the arts, water and sanitation, safety, justice, libraries, natural and built heritage, parks, recreation facilities, streets, markets and public places are connecting tissues linking our individual private worlds and fusing one generation to another. The public realm is the glue that holds a city together and the bedrock upon which it builds its prosperity, communities and social peace. Join CUI and its southern partners in an international dialogue on new ways to use urban economies and civic engagement to restore our city regions and their community assets, ecological systems, cultural souls and rural hinterlands. For more background information on the topic, download a copy of the current edition of the Urban Century magazine. To sign up for our networking session, please visit www.wuf3-fum3.ca/networking_events/list_network_en.asp.
